Byluciagrace’s designs in Turks and Caicos Islands

Fashion shoot Turks and Caicos Islands

Susan Chae is the designer behind byluciagrace designs. Her first Collection was photographed in the Turks and Caicos Islands and here is her story:

My husband Harry and I were married in Turks and Caicos in March 2017 In preparation for our destination wedding and honeymoon. I started looking for beach cover ups and dinner outfits. My priority, a bride ‘getting robe’ for the big day. I was quite disappointed that I could not find any that suit my taste. And being under five feet tall, it is not easy to find ready-to-wear clothes that fit my frame without making any alterations.

I decided that if I couldn’t find it, then I will sew my own. It was quite a daring decision but one that I am so happy that I made! I did make my robe and a few beach cover ups, met up again with Anita who photographed our wedding (amazing photos ), thank you Anita! Our wedding is on the Brilliant Studios Blog), and have not stopped sewing since. Sewing for me has become a newfound passion and I love expressing my creativity via fashion.

I use commercial sewing patterns (and tweak them to fit my aesthetic) to make my garments, quite a few which are runway and designer inspired. You can see more of my creations on Instagram.com/byluciagrace. And yes, Grace is for Grace Bay Beach, our favorite place in the world. For this particular photo shoot I wanted to showcase stylish yet comfortable beach cover ups and pool lounge outfits.

The lemon print dress was inspired by Dolce and Gabbana and made specifically to be worn to celebrate our one year anniversary. The mauve maxi was made with a dress pattern that I transformed into a beach cover up by using stretch lace fabric. The striped robe/ duster cardigan multipurpose garment? Made by combining several patterns inspired by Johanna Ortiz Mompox jacket.

My blog ByLuciaGrace.com is scheduled to be launched shortly and eventually I hope to have my own line of beach cover ups and sewing patterns. Thank you Anita for making my clothes look even more beautiful and I will have more garments ready to be photographed soon!
